6,611 UUM GRADUANDS SET TO RECEIVE THEIR DEGREES THIS SUNDAY

pc konvoUUM ONLINE: Alor Setar - A total of 6,611 graduands of 2021 will receive their respective degrees at the 34th Universiti Utara Malaysia (UUM) Convocation Ceremony which will take place over five days at the Mu'adzam Shah Hall, UUM.

According to the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Dr. Haim Hilman Abdullah, 70% of the graduands are among the B40 group, or under privileged students, and some even live in the interior, and they have extraordinary stories in the journey of obtaining a degree in order to change their destiny and future.

"The University was able to lift them out of poverty, and I am sure stories like this, if picked up by the media, will inspire thousands more students because the media has an extraordinary reach.

“I hope the media friends are always with UUM because we are part or one of the members to develop the nation's younger generation," he said yesterday at the Media Conference held in conjunction with 34th UUM Convocation Ceremony at Mayang Emas Hall, The Jerai Hotel, Alor Setar.

He stated that of the total number of graduands (excluding Honorary Degree recipients), 5,537 are undergraduate graduands and 1,074 are postgraduate graduands.

Of the total postgraduate graduands, 227 are Doctor of Philosophy, Doctor of Management (2), Doctor of Business Administration (30), Master Degree (691) and Postgraduate Diploma (124) graduands.

This convocation ceremony will also honour 393 international graduands from 28 countries with Indonesia having the most graduands (117), China (82) and Pakistan (81).

"This Convocation ceremony will also witness a total of 868 graduands (13.12%) from the Bachelor's Degree receiving First Class Degree.

"We are also pleased to announce that the employability of UUM graduates (GE) has reached 84%, which in one fell swoop signifies an encouraging benchmark for future employers.

“During the convocation, Tan Sri Dr. Halim Shafie will receive the Honorary Doctor of Philosophy in ICT Development Management from UUM, and Dato' Che Azmi Murad will receive the Honorary Master of Arts in Operations Management," he said.

UUM Chancellor, His Royal Highness (HRH) Al Aminul Karim Sultan Sallehuddin Ibni Almarhum Sultan Badlishah, the Sultan of Kedah, will present honorary degrees to the two figures in the first session, 6 November 2022 (Sunday).

In addition, a total of 955 graduates have been selected to receive 31 major university awards, including the newly introduced PTPTN Excellence Award.

The Convocation Fair (PESKON) aptly themed, '#INIUUMKITA: Kenangan Tercipta’ (#INIUUMKITA: Memories Created), will take place from 3 to 11 November 2022 from 9 a.m. to 11 p.m. at the Expo Site, PALAPES Parade Ground, and around UUM in conjunction with the 34th UUM Convocation Ceremony.
