BOOK BY UUM PROFESSOR GETS PUBLISHED BY RENOWNED INTERNATIONAL PUBLISHER BASED IN THE UK

UUM ONLINE: The research conducted by Prof. Dr. Mukaramah Harun, a professor at Universiti Utara Malaysia, entitled 'Public Expenditure and Income Distribution in Malaysia,' has been published by Routledge, a renowned international publisher based in the United Kingdom.

This book, which was released this year, delves into the impact of public expenditure allocations in achieving income equality goals in Malaysia.

According to Prof. Dr. Mukaramah, her original work, which is indexed in Scopus, earned her an incentive of RM1,000 from UUM for book publication back in July.

The book 'Public Expenditure and Income Distribution in Malaysia' examines the role of institutions in income distribution across different agents and sectors while assessing the effects of public expenditure policies in reducing disparities between ethnic groups and urban-rural divides.

Given Malaysia's significant strides in poverty eradication, the authors, namely Prof. Dr. Mukaramah and Ms. Sze Ying Loo, propose a reassessment of public expenditure policies.

They present evidence of the significance of public expenditure in reducing income inequality, employing the Social Accounting Matrix (SAM) model to evaluate the impact of public expenditure policies in bridging the gap between ethnic groups and rural areas.

The book provides a comprehensive source of information on addressing economic inequality challenges. The book is likely to pique the interest of economists and researchers focused on Southeast Asian studies.
