PRISON OFFICER IS RECIPIENT OF UNIUTAMA AWARD

L ADLIEUUM ONLINE: The Chief Inspector of Prisons expressed his delight at receiving the Uniutama Education and Consultancy Sdn. Bhd. Award at the 34th Universiti Utara Malaysia (UUM) Convocation Ceremony, which took place on Thursday at Mu'adzam Shah Hall.

Mr. Noradlie Abdul Raub, a Bachelor of Public Management graduate, never expected to receive such a valuable award and is grateful to Allah SWT for all the blessings bestowed upon him.

"Praise be to Allah, this is the most beautiful gift for my parents, wife, and children who sacrificed so much while I was studying as a father with four children.

"I must set a good example for them and inspire them to pursue higher education.

"At the age of 40, I miss the campus atmosphere where I continued my previous studies. There, we will meet various friends from various fields who will serve as motivation, share ideas, and add skills learned from lecturers, "He stated.

Furthermore, he added, do not look down on a prisoner because they can teach you valuable lessons and provide useful guidance in living a life full of trials and tribulations.

"Throughout my studies, I was inspired by a prisoner. While serving his sentence, one of the inmates earned a diploma, then a bachelor's degree, and finally a master's degree. He is currently pursuing his doctoral studies, whereas I, as a free man, have not been able to achieve what he has.

"So, I made a decision and worked hard until I successfully completed my studies at the end of 2021 and received a First-Class Bachelor Degree in Public Management with 4.00 results four times and the Dean's Award nine times with a Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) of 3.89," he explained.

He began working in the Malaysian Prisons Department 17 years ago and is now the Public Relations Officer at the Malaysian Prisons Headquarters (IPPM) in Kajang, Selangor.

Despite having a stable job, his thirst for knowledge fuels his studies, and he plans to continue studying until he reaches the highest level.

Despite having a Diploma in Fine Metal Design and a Bachelor Degree in Mass Communication from one of Malaysia's public universities, he requires additional skills and knowledge to add value to his work at the Malaysian Prisons Department, not to mention that superior officers always encourage staff to continue their studies.

"We need diverse skills and knowledge so that they can be channelled into the service, particularly to assist the Malaysian Prisons Department in carrying out its function as an elite Correctional Centre in the Asian region.

"I would like to thank UUM PACE and fellow lecturers who worked tirelessly to help, encourage, and provide the best service to students because I would not be where I am now without their contribution," he said.

In addition to working in government, he is involved in script writing, which he finds very interesting in order to educate and set an example for the community. When a work is written and translated visually, it can be viewed in Malaysia and even around the world.

"I use my talent for writing TV scripts, as well as the trust given to me by producers and TV stations, particularly TV3, which has given me the space to create. I have written scripts for nearly 40 telemovies and serials and competed in Anugerah Skrin (ASK) and Anugerah Seri Angkasa (ASA) in various categories.

"The year 2022 can be considered my lucky year because I received the 1st class Commissioner General of Prisons medal for my contribution to the department and was named one of the TOP 5 Drama Script Writers, Anugerah Seri Angkasa 2022 at PICC."

His message to students is that knowledge makes individuals more valuable than others and that they will be looked up to if they have knowledge, but it is not a guarantee that they will get the job of their dreams.

"Time management is critical; hence we must always be disciplined, respect educators, and always maintain positive relationships with them."

"In addition, it is important to have the support of family and friends as you make your way through your studies, and always pray to God for guidance and direction in everything you do," he added.
