UUM ONLINE: Universiti Utara Malaysia (UUM) received an allocation of RM52 million for the provision of information and communication technology (ICT) infrastructure at the university.

The Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Dr. Mohd Foad Sakdan, conveyed the information during the Staff Monthly Assembly, which coincided with the launch of the UUM Digitization Plan and the closing of the 13th UUM Staff Sports Championship at the UUM Stadium Sports Centre on Wednesday.

According to him, the Ministry of Higher Education issued the allocation during the Twelfth Malaysia Plan (RMK-12) for the years 2022 to 2024.

"The allocation will indirectly assist the UUM campus community as they navigate the challenges of the digital era, particularly in the context of the current new norm.

"UUM places great emphasis on both management and academic excellence. Additionally, the university is committed to cultivating human capital that consistently prioritises the integration of advanced technology and digitization in its teaching and learning practices," he said.

Prof. Dr Mohd Foad further added that the digitization process will primarily emphasise the transformation of mindset, skills and infrastructure within the educational community, encompassing both educators and students.

Consequently, he emphasised the necessity for all parties involved to equip themselves with new approaches by undergoing a significant transformation in their mindset and acquiring the necessary skills in the field of digital technology.

According to him, UUMIT has formulated the UUM Digitization Plan 2024 to 2030 encompassing various initiatives including Wi-Fi Improvement / Next Generation Networks, Augmented Reality / Virtual Reality, Metaverse, Virtual Room, Data Management / Big Data Analytics, Block Chain, Smart Lecture Hall Management, Internet of Things (IoT), Digital Telephone System and Virtual Museum.
