CHANGE ATTITUDES FOR THE CONTINUITY OF LIFE

rm sesi 2UUM ONLINE: In an increasingly challenging world in the post-COVID-19 pandemic era, graduands of Universiti Utara Malaysia (UUM) are advised to change their attitudes and personalities in order to survive in the workplace.

The Pro-Chancellor of UUM, His Royal Highness Tengku Sarafudin Badlishah Ibni Al Aminul Karim Sultan Sallehuddin, Raja Muda of Kedah Darul Aman, urged graduates to make the current situation a point of change to a more positive attitude.

He believes that graduates should be resilient in the face of post-pandemic challenges that necessitate more effective character development efforts.

As recommended by Charles Fadel, Chairman of the Curriculum Redesign Centre in Boston, USA, soft skills are essential components of 21st century education.

Therefore, the Pro-Chancellor urged this university's graduands to be resilient, especially when faced with uncertainty, in order to determine the destination or end point.

"Employers are increasingly looking for graduates with broad competencies rather than just qualifications.

"Graduates must also be brave and take risks, as well as step outside of their comfort zones by challenging themselves to be better than they are now. There is no reason to be afraid of doing work outside of your field of study.

"What is important is that graduates be prepared and strive to improve themselves so that every work challenge they face can be met with more enthusiasm and perseverance, and that past failures can be turned into experiences and lessons," he said.

During the second session of the UUM 34th Convocation Ceremony, the Tuanku Pro-Chancellor conferred degrees to 468 graduands.
